I lived/worked in China from 1998 to 2015. I came home for a couple of years and now would like to go back. I have found a job in Beijing - seems promising. But there are soooooo many new regs about getting the work visa. Please correct me if I am wrong...
I now have to get my documents notarized, then authenticated by the Secretary of State where I am from, then authenticated by the Federal Secretary of State, then finally sent to the Chinese consulate. Is this correct? |

You've got it all wrong.
Immigrate to Russia, Pakistan, or Nigeria.
Then, come over on whatever visa you can get and tell everyone you're a native speaker.
That's what 90% of the "teachers" here do.
Down is the new up. Haven't you heard? |

Apparently, documents can now be authenticated within China. |

Not so per the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in China Notaries Public page for US citizens residing in China:

What we CANNOT do:
Academic Credentials: We cannot notarize, certify, or authenticate academic credentials. Instructions on how to obtain this service can be found here. Details please see below.
....
Academic Credentials
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates General are unable to authenticate diplomas or other documents from universities and other schools in the United States or provide notarial services related to such credentials. In an effort to be of assistance to U.S. citizens who wish to present academic credentials from the United States for use in foreign countries, a step-by-step guidance is provided on the State Department’s website.

Take it you did not follow the link for assistance. I have been told it takes ages to get done though. Faster to get it processed in the states. |

I was living in Indonesia when I had to get my University diploma authenticated last year.
I found a company on the internet based in Washington, DC that was able to do the process for a fee. I also had them process my Z visa.
It was expensive, but very fast and still cheaper if I had to do it myself. |

Chinese really don't want capable foreigners anymore. In a meeting my boss actually said to us that we are way overpaid and he could hire Filipinos for 6,000 a month. no offense intended to my Filipino friends |

I got my university degree authenticated in Suzhou - in 10 days. Cost 385y. By some Chinese educational branch of the government. They scanned my diploma, transcripts, passport.
10 days later an envelope arrived via EMS from Beijing. 2 certificates proving the degree's authenticity. END OF STORY |

You need your degree, dates, high school info, and fill in this useless info and gotta pay 385y using Union Pay (only)
choose your local - be careful to make sure you pick the correct city - then you get sms and have to go to the location in your city.
I went in Suzhou. It was easy - lady spoke English and scanned all your docs and gave them back.
An additional 300y for translation. |
