| I am in my late 50's and think I am heading back to teach after a considerable hiatus in the US. What is the deal on age 60? Do they no longer issue visas at that age and put out to pasture? |

Others can comment of China's retirement age. But for clarification for those non-Americans, AARP isn't the name of a school in China. It's a large nonprofit organization that focuses on the quality of work and life for Americans age 50+. |

| Now that is funny. I forgot the wider audience. Anyway, a couple of recruiters made the reference to age 60. My guess there may be some wiggle room for teachers already in China? |

I'm 56 and couldn't get arrested in Beijing or Shenzhen. Seems there's plenty of younger teachers in those cities so they weren't interested in me unless it was some crap public school job.
I don't know your qualifications or what kind of school you are looking for (training, University, private, etc.), but you might have better luck in a smaller city where there are less foreign teachers.
I just finished a job in Chongqing, which is a Tier 1 city, but there's a shortage of teachers. |

I also just finished a job in Chongqing but trust me it aint no tier 1 city (think I've seen it mentioned as maybe tier 2) yeah there are plenty of jobs there but unless you are young and into heavy drinking (or you are married to a local) there aint much there for an older foreigner. It is also somewhat remote as the only real high speed rail link is to Chengdu.
Try Shanghai there are plenty of jobs here |
