I have personal experience as well. I subbed for two school districts in my state when I returned to the US, and I still have an active sub license. I chose to bypass initial licensure.
Regardless, others have pointed out differences in requirements. |

| OP, there are two major online cert programs: TeachNow and TeacherReady. Have you looked into those? TeacherReady is even FL specific if that matters. Looking into various alternative certification programs is probably your best bet. |

Unfortunately, the OP only had that one post. Regardless, she felt those programs weren't an option for her. She stated that she has no interest in ever returning to the US (Florida) and wanted a teacher licensure program that apparently doesn't entail a course but instead, requires online tests and having her US license mailed to her in S. America. |

Those both work for the OP. Neither require moving back to the states as the teaching requirement can be accomplished abroad assuming access to an international school for the teaching experience portion (easier said than done though). TeachNow requires Praxis tests that can be taken abroad, while with TeacherReady a trip to FL would be needed for the tests.
I'm not seeing where the OP says no coursework, but that's a moot point since all certification paths I know of require some sort of coursework and teaching experience. It's going to be a lot of time and/or money regardless, but the two options I mentioned are the probably the best (and maybe only) options for someone who wants to stay abroad.
I made the transition from ESL to international schools myself through an alternative certification program myself (moved back to TX for awhile to do it though), and am very happy with the decision. I think it is a great option for someone who wants to pursue a life abroad and it opens up more viable options than ESL.
For example, I'm moving to Tbilisi, Georgia in a few days (yay!) where the average ESL salary is around $300/month. You can survive on that but forget about saving or supporting a family. I'm not making big bucks from from a US perspective, but will be making more than ten times that enabling a great lifestyle and substantial savings potential. You can make good money in ESL too, but the lucrative options are somewhat narrow in terms of location. Getting certified was a great decision from my perspective. |

It's been a while and I'm not sure if my exact program still exists in the same form. There are literally dozens of programs out there though. See here for a list of programs in Texas.
What I did specifically was apply to Teach for America while teaching ESL in Japan. If accepted, they provide training and hook you up with a job and certification program. I ended in the Rio Grande Valley for a couple of years. To be honest the most difficult professional experience in my life due to the extreme classroom management learning curve I had deal with. Things got better after the first year, but I almost threw in the towel on a few occasions. Much happier abroad with international schools where the classroom management, paperwork, and accountability issues are more reasonable. |
