So if you believe much of what you read, life in Saudi is a snore fest with some teaching thrown in. So I'm wondering what projects, goals, professional hobbies and other side-things do people have going on in their downtime?
Just out of interest. |

I know quite a few teachers who are working on their novel or EFL textbook. Others sleep and make home brews. Lots go to the gym. |

man... an absolute ton. Learning a language (not Arabic!), songwriting, improving musical technique, photography (not of Saudi!), travel, reading hundreds of books... and building a marriage. Plenty to do! |

When I was back in Saudi, I picked up learning guitar. Caught up on a few classic films I had been neglecting for a while. Homebrewing was also fun. Lots of gym and swimming. Cooked a few dishes thanks to Lulu's selection of virtually anything so long as it's Halal.
Life back in Vietnam, in contrast, I've neglected on a lot of those new hobbies what with more hours and busier social life. |

Film editing, travel writing, building a new travel blog and instagram audience, photography (including Saudi), swimming in the sea, jogging along the beach, avoiding grouchy teachers, and occasionally checking my online premium bonds account! |

I want to get started trading bonds during those long hot Arab afternoons. How can I get started? |

I wont be working there until I get some teaching experience, but when I start, I was hoping that I could buy a guitar to get some major practise in. I also play World of Warcraft, so I'm hoping that I can still play that game in my free time? |

Great thread.
* 1/2 way thru an online MA in Edu. Call it a plan B.
* Learning the piano.
* Digital Music Production for film and otherwise.
* Film Editing/Photography/Video
* Long term investing
* Lots of travel within Saudi and out:
(Road tripped Jeddah > Riyadh > heet cave / edge of the world > Hail > Madain Saleh > Al Ula > Yanbu > Jeddah earlier this year.
Now going...Jeddah> Riyadh > Khobar > UAE > Oman and back. Lots of camping and mingling w/ locals involved.)
That's enough for now.
I think after this MA, I'll get another degree but in film. (Plan C) |
