I was living in Taranto, Italy, on 1150 per month in a shared flat. Rent was 250 plus bills. I had no car because the buses were fine and most things were walkable. I saved a little, but not incredibly huge amounts, I'd say about 300 euros per month because I didn't really have many expenses.

Other cities will have higher cost of living, and a lot will depend on lifestyle - whether you share a flat, have a car, etc etc. You probably won't starve, regardless.

"Not starving" seems to be a sensible plan but would you want to do that for any length of time ? In my career (????) i had spells of being in countries I liked where the salaries were low, and longer spells of being in places where I got a decent income.

Nowhere in Europe pays enough to TEFLers to make it viable long-term. Think about pensions, housing etc.

Well, not to those with basic/generic qualifications and without local connections, language skills, reputation (as I've noted here far too often over the years:-)).
