Given the past and projected growth of online ELT along with the inevitability of its major players to no longer restrict themselves to serving their domestic markets, is it not time to create a new forum, Online Teaching, decoupling it from any national or regional forum? European players already serve multiple markets.

Online job listings now number more than job listings for most countries on the international jobs board. (Korea and china excepted, since Dave's has separate job boards for these countries.) It makes sense to start gathering all the online questions, info, and advice in one location. Perhaps something like:

General Discussion Forum
Newbie Forum
Online Forum
Current Events Forum
Technology Forum

I hesitated about calling it just Online Forum instead of Online Teaching Forum anticipating wisecracks from the whiskered one: "These forums are all online." but the teaching itself is not necessarily online. So the description might include the two broad categories I identified in last year's poll unless anyone can further clarify or add to my understanding:

a) online schools where teaching is all online accounting for 80% sites, and ??% of teachers (i.e.: VIPkid, Talk-to-Canada, eBerlitz, Livemocha)

b) tutor portals where tutors compete for on- and offline students through uploaded profiles and feedback where the provider merely facilitates payment for a cut. Teachers have autonomy/ responsible for curriculum, setting rates, etc. Such services may vet teacher credentials initially (i.e.:GlobalLingos in Australia, or YoliChat in China)

That's the middle ground, where you're teaching online from a brick & mortar location as I did for the first time this spring. I offered the sole adult in my Bus.Eng Int. class an online alternative to missing part of his class on account of repeatedly arriving late. While at WSI years ago, I was told they offer the alternative of online 'Encounters'. Although I never saw it in our center, I can't imagine them being done anywhere but from within Wall St Institute's purposely designed institutional walls, surely not from within decrepit bedroom walls plastered over with posters of celeb sensations.
