I might help a friend start up his non-profit online teaching venture.

I know Google, etc. has answers. But, I always like more thorough ones.

Just curious about two things:

1. Have studies ever been done about which online learning platforms have been most effective for learners?

2. Have any of you worked as a teacher for these companies that offer up to $20 USD per hour to teach? What are your opinions about the pro's and con's of the field.

I have been teaching online for 6 years, exclusively for the last 5. The school I work for has a variety of activities for students to do, news stories, an idiom a day, grammar lesssons, online dictionary, translator and pronunciation guide, grammar videos as well as two types of live classes - a more grammar oriented format and a more conversation oriented format. Students who put in the time and work do advance, but I think they have to be very self motivated. We do not have our own platform, but use Abobe Connect. Myself, I have gotten to an Intermediate level of Portuguese using a combination of in person classes, one on one private classes (not too many of those) and online classes and lessons, with the majority (perhaps 75%) being online. I have seen a sample lesson that one of the big Chinese companies does and it looks AWFUL to me, so fake. While the pay is good at that company it does not look like it would be an effective way to learn. I am a trained teacher and I want to teach serious students. As of now I only teach a few classes a week, I work in a support position with a variety of tasks. I enjoy my job, the pay is great considering where I live, and I always get paid on time.

Hello BadBeagleBad, I would like, with time, to make online teaching my full time job and source of income. From what you say, it seems possible. Can you tell me what company you work for, and do you have any advice you would like to share? Thank you.

Google "Good Air Language" for the list.

So I've trawled through the threads and they are hazy on details.
Does anyone know a company where you can teach from your smartphone?
Also which companies will pay you daily or weekly?

Here's one for the frugally fastidious NEST (who spells 'best' with a '$') Crying or Very sad:

FastSchool
Req's: random degree, random TEFL, 3 yrs(+) exp.
Ages: 5-12 (30 min. sessions in Beijing)
Comp: $40 to $120/hr based on both popularity and performance in class

* While that's what the website says, a few months ago, someone claimed it was $30 (1 to 1) / $60 (MOOC) with 2 x $5 bonuses if you get 100, 200.

inutome, if you haven't already, you may want to add this to your most complete list
