I know that getting a Chinese visa/ work permit has become really long winded. How about work permit renewal? I have to get mine renewed soon with the same employer and was wondering what to expect. Are authenticated diplomas now needed for renewals too?

Not yet, to my knowledge. I'd expect this to change at some point but as of now you can renew without having to resubmit your documents.

Your employer should handle this. If your first employment permit is legit, you should have no problem.

Unless, of course, you work for a private school. Good luck.

If you stay with the same employer - same school - same city - then it should be very straightforward. Foreign Experts Office rubber stamp the already approved certificate then your employer takes that to immigration with your passport - and they'll take 10 days to process the renewal.

If you change employers then you'll have to go through the entire process and everything that comes with it.
