I hope someone can answer my questions but first, let me give you some background. I have been teaching ESL/EFL in various capacities since 1994 with the last 13 years being for the US DOD. I will retire in nine years and need not worry about having a salary after that as I will be receiving a pension, have savings, etc. Still, I will only be 60 at that time and would like to stay active. Also, I love to teach and would like to continue doing so in some capacity. Anyway, here are my questions:
1) Are there many volunteer opportunities (related to EFL) in this part of the world, more specifically Bulgaria and Romania? I've heard these two countries are relatively cheap and I could volunteer without worrying about the cost of living.
2) If there ARE some opportunities, would my age be an impediment as far as being permitted to volunteer? I know in some Asian countries this would rule me out.
3) Finally, would it be difficult, as an American, to reside in either of those countries due to visa restrictions?
I guess that's all for now. I'm interested in this area primarily because of its history and being a place where I could really do some good. I know nine years is a long time away but I just wanted to get an idea of the possibilities in advance.
Thanks for your assistance.

No worries I'd be doing it myself if I could afford it! |

Yes, I've made some sacrifices but will obtain that freedom in about nine years |

Peace Corps?
Not Romania and Bulgaria, but they are currently in Albania, Macedonia, Ukraine, and Moldova.

So the PC pulled out of Bulgaria. They were around when I was living there. I had reservations about them, but they did provide opportunities for the cousins to spend some time in what was then my adopted homeland.

Peace Corps wrapped up their business in Bulgaria in 2013.
As for Eastern Europe, Peace Corps is currently in Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, and the Ukraine. They're also in Armenia and Georgia.
