Recruiters in China want me to provide a Police/Criminal record check. I am from the UK and I am on the DBS update service (formally CRB) So my last DBS certificate was in 2016 but the number is used on the update service. However thats not acceptable for China i think. Would a new printed DBS certificate be enough for the recruiters in China or is there another I could use? Have heard of something called disclosure Scotland. Any advice welcome please.

There is an ACRO police check too, just to confuse matters. I have used a Disclosure Scotland enhanced check for my Z visa and when changing jobs an ACRO police check. I would say get the one the individual recruiter or school requests. Some variation between employers and/or provincial governments is assured.

I recently used Disclosure Scotland's basic disclosure; any police records check needs to be 'authenticated' - for the above this meant
1) notarised by a lawyer,
2) certified by the Foreign Office Documents centre in Milton Keynes, and
3) authenticated by the Chinese Embassy in London.
An expensive process, but if you use an agency it can be done in a few days. The apostille agency based in Coventry worked for me.
I believe the ACRO check is signed by the police , so you can skip stage 1).

I skipped all three steps with the ACRO checks. Back to the variation theme again.

Thanks good idea to ask employer which one they prefer. My DBS update service shows clean but the Acro check - one page that looks like i could have cobbled together on an old Tandy word processor shows an offence i committed in 1987 which led to a 6 month conditional discharge. It was only regarding a false declaration but i wonder if it would prohibit me from working in China even though it was 30 years ago.
