I'm talking about a certicate from like a 6 week or 8 week school.
Doesn't seem like it makes a difference in hiring. |

It depends.
In more desirable job markets with more competition, the certs are usually either required or at least highly desirable.
It also depends whether you have any related qualifications already. A generic university degree isn't 'related.' |

How about a nice, easy answer?
It depends.
In some countries it is or may be an employer requirement, request, preference or desire.
In some countries it is a government requirement to be able to get a visa or work permit.
In some countries it doesn't matter. The requirement to work as a teacher is a degree.
In a few countries it doesn't matter. There are no requirements.

Exactly, I was kind of looking for a yes or no. |

More like Yes and No.
examples:
China, Vietnam = yes (to be legal).
Thailand, Korea = no (just a degree required to be legal).
Cambodia = no requirement for an educator to be educated other than smart enough to have the cash to buy a visa.

50 years ago an educated native speaker could turn up in many countries and just get a job teaching English - if there were no work permit issues. Those days are long gone.
There are still a few places where the locals are in awe of the native speaker. Not many. |
