I was lucky. I was recruited by the British Council to go to Bulgaria to teach in one of the Ministry of Education Secondary Language Schools in 1991 That programme has been running for some years and provided for those who knew about it an entry into life and work in the People's Republic.
The Cultural programme between Britain and Bulgaria came to an end a few years after I arrived. A loss for both sides.
My time there (1991-2008) gave me the chance to learn Bulgarian, immerse myself in Bulgarian Life and Culture. I married there and we had two daughters
Opportunities to earn a living wage teaching in Bulgaria are now very few.. |

Of course the Cultural programme also gave contact for people who had contacts with The Spooks on both sides. |
