|
|
I’m thinking of doing a MATESOL at one of the local universities (UK).
One university offers a “blended learning” full time masters programme. There would be 3 days on campus with other elements delivered through an online platform, according to the course administrator.
However, I’ve heard that online masters programmes are not accepted in the ME. Can anyone advise whether this also applies to “blended learning” programmes as described above?
It would be a deal breaker for me.
Thanks. |

Yes, many of the Gulf countries don't recognize degrees with any online work - whether they called it "blended" or whatever. The other reality is that the number of good jobs in the area have dwindled significantly. Salaries and benefits have plummeted.

Just do a part-time MA program on campus. Two or three days per week and no messing about with blended learning. |

Hi, thanks for your replies - it’s as I thought! I have no difficulty in attending full-time for a year, I’m intending to apply for the PGDE as my first choice. I know that course is heavily subscribed so want to hedge my bets by applying for TESOL too. Just need to make sure it’s a course that would be accepted.
Thanks again! |

Is the blended element written on the final qualification? |

I don’t know but even if it isn’t, the most cursory check of the programme’s webpage would reveal that it’s advertised as a blended course. |

They will call the registrar to find out. They seem to feel special about doing things like that. If the registrar refuses to give out the info (some won't even with your approval), there's a real good chance you won't get hired. ESL work is getting to be the dregs anyway. I wouldn't invest in anything for ESL work. |

I agree
This is not the time to invest in qualifications to embark on TESOL work. Do something else. |

After I've just spunked over £1k on a CELTA too.
That's an interesting perspective, I take it you're talking about the general situation regarding ESOL throughout the world and not just the ME?
As I say, a MATESOL is the 2nd choice for me, I would only consider it should I fail to get into a PGDE. |
