I plan to leave my current school at the end of this semester when my contract expires and find a new school starting this September. So I will be transferring jobs, which never necessitated going back home for in the past, but with the new regulations I'm not so sure. Last year (2017, when the new regulations came into force), I went home for the summer and got my degree and non-criminal check authenticated. My diploma obviously doesn't need to be notarized again. My non-criminal check, however, is almost a year old (it's a local check from a U.S. city). Since I have been living in China for the past year, I will obviously need to get a non-criminal record document from a police station in China, yes? What is the procedure?

Any other issues I need to take care of when changing from one job in China to another? There's a thread below about people having problems transferring residence visas from one province to a different province. If I have all the documents here in China, I certainly shouldn't have to go home and start the process all over again just to get a new work visa?

Why would you? If you haven't stayed outside of China for an extended period of time since the last criminal check, then you probably don't need one. At least, in my experience, you wouldn't. No harm in checking with the PSB though to make sure, but I honestly doubt you'll need to.

The only times I've been required to have it done was when I've been outside of China, and applying for the visa from abroad.

Last year i applied from outside China and went through the whole rigmarole to get here. Now i've decided to transfer to another province as i find my county-level city too small. Some teachers love it, but it's not for me.

My new employers have requested a local police check. It has been duly done, even though the police station has never done one before. My recruiter sent me a sample letter to show them. I guess previous teachers have returned home, moved within the province, or at the time a police check was not needed?

There was no fee and I just needed to bring my passport.

Btw, my public school requires an additional teacher. It's a light schedule for 10k pm...etc...PM me if you are interested, cheers!

I had been in China for 9 years with only one exit to HK, I still needed a criminal check when moving from Sichuan to Jiangsu. Forget the fact that in California most offenses wont even show up after 9 years. I am guessing they also want to know about financial or cyber crime that might be happening.

You haven't left China in 9 years? Congrats! I like it here a lot but even I need a break and have to get out every once in awhile.
