OP - just adding to what others have said. Salary might take the EDB time to verify your quals/experience - until then they may state quite a low salary. When I got my contract offer in May a few years back it was about 30K a month, then after checks were done it changed to about 55K before the start date in August. (including special allowance, about 50K/75K)
About the school - conditions vary a lot. Will the school let you get in touch with the previous NET? Best way to find out. You can also try asking on a couple of NET forums - PNETS and NESTA.
Personally I don't worry whether the school is Band 1 or 3. Kids in Band 3 can be very nice, just not so academic. There's a worry about discipline, but I've never had major issues. Band 1 I'd say you can do more interesting things with them, but usually more homework to mark and pressure from bosses and parents for results.
I've found the job easier or more difficult depending on the staff and management, rather than the students.
Accommodation is a big deal in Hong Kong - and can vary a lot
Sorry - not helping, eh?
Price varies on location - how far it is to Central.
You can spend 15-25K and be in a 400 sqft 1/2 bed flat in a block with clubhouse, swimming pool, gym, etc.
You can get a village house 700sqft maybe 10-15K.
Of course you can go lower, and smaller.
Can try gohome.com.hk and look around. |

FYI, the school's contributions are deducted from your bonus every two years. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying. |
Seriously? Is that legal? I know they can deduct a lump sum from your MPF fund to pay your severance package in the event of termination but I didn't know they could regularly take it out of your bonus. So your bonus is deducted by HKD 36,000 every two years? |

That's correct, yeah.
Can't quite remember the rationale behind the loop hole, but that's what happens. Some nets opt out of mpf (and never apply for PR) for that very reason. |
