After graduating from college I desperately wanted to return to Lebanon, where I'd had my most memorable teaching experience - teaching art and theater to youth at a refugee camp. So I took the CELTA, went to Beirut, started working at a school to make just enough money to break even, and began volunteering at the camps.
Unfortunately, I was doing all this on a tourist visa, so a few weeks ago, the Lebanese authorities told me that I had two weeks to either leave Lebanon or find an organization/school to sponsor me. Although my employer was willing to pay for half of my work permit, I wasn't comfortable staying at that particular school, for various reasons.
So here I am, two weeks later, waiting around in Jordan, hoping that someone may be able to help me out. I'm even willing to pay for my work permit, just as long as someone does my paper work.
I miss teaching English, I miss my students, and I miss Beirut. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do, or should I just give up on Lebanon and try somewhere else in the area? |
