Hello all.
It's been a few month now since I finished TEFL courses. And I am still looking for a place that would hire me. My first choice was S.Korea but I don't meet requirements so had to let go of that dream.
Right now I am looking at Hong Kong and Japan as the two main ways. But do you think there's other countries that would consider me legally in Asia?
So I am:
-21 year old female
-have TEFL 120h certificate
-BA in Korean language and English as minor
-IELTS band 7.5
-Zambian resident (lived here for 12 years)
and the most annoying part of me that ruins everything but unfortunately the most important one
-Ukrainian citizen.
I am unlikely to be able to go with "boots on the ground" situation for a first job for various reasons. One of them being I am not that courageous..
I know that looking for a job isn't easy and will take time but I am starting to lose hope. So I hopec: you -oh wise forum- will have a piece of advice for me.

There's a recent related thread, A non-native's teaching journey.
You're limited to countries where you can legally work with a Ukrainian passport---possibly Cambodia and Vietnam if Asia is your desired region. You might consider Ukraine, which is an obvious option. But that could be a challenge since you've lived in Zambia from age 9. Otherwise being in country is pretty much your best bet for finding entry-level work abroad.
BTW, what TEFL cert did you obtain? Was the course in-person and did it include at least 6 hours of supervised, observed, and assessed practice teaching (e.g., CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL)?
Another option is to forego teaching EFL and instead use your Korean language skills working for a Korean company based in Zambia. Do an Internet search on Korean companies in Zambia. |

Thailand is an option for a Ukrainian with a degree and IELTS (current and valid) of 7.5.
Fly in on a 30-day entry. Get a job and do a visa run to get your non-B (work) visa.
The only problem is timing. Peak hiring for teachers is April and May with a small bump in October (mid year break).
July is not a great time to be looking (mid semester).
December - February are the worst times to be looking (end of the school year).
You will also need to have your degree authenticated and a police check done.
