Hello -

I am a CELTA graduate and have been teaching ESL for about 7 months in New York City. I also have a Masters Degree in Museum Studies.

I would like relocate to Mexico to teach but I don't know the best option for finding a job. I found some online job boards posted on this forum but now I cannot find them. Can anyone help with this? Or is the best option to just go to Mexico? I am planning to go in September and I would ideally like to go to Mexico City but I am open to other options.

Thanks for your help!
Linda

Of course! But I thought I had seen other online job boards for Mexico that people had linked on this site. Perhaps I am wrong.

English teachers in Mexico is the FB group.

Most jobs here aren't advertised, its best to take your resume to the school. Or you can email your resume to the school. Just look for schools on Google maps.

Now you can just use google, rather than going to a specific job site. Try to be as location specific as possible, for example include a Mexican city or state you are interested in. Choose to order results by date to get current postings, but don't be afraid to apply to old postings as schools may have a current opening.

Others can respond about the best time of the year to job hunt/obtain work in Mexico.

The school year essentially starts in August, so September is too late for the school year (although you might find something at a school that has an emergency vacancy to fill in). However non-school English institutes (business classes, etc.) start courses continually around the year and so hiring is ongoing – and there are plenty of these.
As for just going to Mexico and looking around, the advantage is that many places (especially the institutes, see above) only hire with personal contact. The disadvantage is that once you have a job offer, you have to make a brief trip to a Mexican consulate outside Mexico to put in your application for a resident visa with work authorization (if you don’t have a resident visa yet) or to get work authorization added to your visa (if you already have a resident visa).
