Hi, does anybody know about accomodation in Tainan? Or even of any vacancies in January?! What kind of rent should i expect (cheap end)? Any info or even contacts would be great, as I'm trying to sort it out before I get there.

Cheers

Accomodations are easy to find in Tainan. I worked there for a year and at the beginning of my contract was able to find an apartment fairly easily. The school where I worked was the American Language Center. Visit their website at www.alctaiwan.com (though it's a little outdated) for their address. Once you're in Tainan, go there and see if you can get some help from the staff--either Chinese or Western. The woman who runs the show is Ruby Wu. She co-owns it with an American living in California, and if she's there she'll probably help. Her English is flawless. If she isn't there, ask for Brenda, the head teacher. If Brenda isn't available, try Sophie or Angela, who work on staff. They're all really great.

I suggested ALC first because you could also inquire about a job. If you prefer contacting some Westerners directly, here are two numbers to try:

1) My friend Chad is from Mississippi and is always hospitable. His number, local to Taiwan, is 3083-1067. It's a cell phone.

2) Beth is a local herself and her English isn't bad. Her number is 3749-4889.

Tell them Eric sent you. Good luck.
