I am interested to know if anyone has any book suggestions about bilingual education. I would like to learn more and personal recommendations would help.

Thanks,

French Immersion Debate: French for All or All for French
Author: Jeanne-Marie Mannavarayan

From the Publisher

In the realm of second language learning and bilingual education, French Immersion has been praised for its innovative and highly successful pedagogical approach. Yet, many students who enroll in the program do not remain in it until its conclusion. The high drop-out rate is revealing some kind of malaise which meeds to be investigated.

Both beneficial and harmful consequences of bilingual education are extensively analyzed and discussed in the literature. There is a widespread consensus among researchers that overall, the linguistic and cognitive advantages of bilingualism outweigh its negative effects. A bilingual education is also said to facilitate the intellectual and neurological development of the learner. These enhanced outcomes are corroborated by research impressively and abundantly reported in the literature. Nevertheless, although academic and emotional difficulties exist for only a minority of Immersion students, they are very real and distressing enough to warrant attention.
