Thanks, that wasn't really the point I was trying to make. Some people think shakai hoken is 'better' as they pay half your premium. My point was that SH doesn't pay half your premium; you pay all of your premium and your employer pays all of it's premium as they are different things.

NB shakai hoken is better, and some kyosais better yet, but not for that reason.

And my point is that you are only correct if talking about someone who is single. Employer contributions nationwide enable deep discounts on coverage for the dependents of full-time workers. Accordingly, if you are married (and especially if you have kids), you are paying far less on Shakai Hoken because of your employer's contributions. As I have a wife and multiple kids, I save a lot of money each year being on Shakai Hoken.
