Hello all, long time no post. Living la vida loca in Querétaro as a 100% independent private tutor of business and conversational English for individual adults and corporate clients. Residente Permanente, registered business, taxpayer, blah blah blah. Making the best money of my decade in international teaching, but it took a LOT of hard work to get here.
Anyway, looking for a bit of advice, what would you do in this situation?
A week ago my Banorte debit card started getting declined on some but not all international transactions, including monthly automatics. Merchants can’t explain, say call bank. Bank can’t illuminate, say call merchants.

Have visited my Banorte branch in person twice, no help there. Called multiple times, they say account is fine. No one knows anything. Customer service experience, pretty poor.
Both bank and merchants assert that they can see the declines, but that they cannot see the reasons for the declines. Surely someone can see those?
I suggested getting a new card and trying the transactions again; the Banorte rep was not persuaded.
Should I open a new account elsewhere, since Banorte seems completely unconcerned about solving my problem? I’ve banked with them since 2011, so I don’t want to do this lightly.

If I do do ditch Banorte, can any of you recommend a more international-customer-friendly bank? Help in English in person or on the phone would be optimal, but I’m probably dreaming there, I know. |

Instead of switching banks , would it be practical for you to open an account in another bank, and start using that one without closing your Banorte account? Give it a few years to see whether you run into problems, and if the new one is better, you could consider closing the Banorte account, but if you have things set up so that you’re not paying service fees there would be no harm in keeping it as a back-up.
I’ve got accounts in more than two banks, and there doesn’t really seem to be any need to close the ones that I’m using less. |

That sounds like a reasonable plan, thanks! Banorte eventually unblocked one monthly automatic payment at my request. The CSR said that my recent difficulties were due to heightened security - nothing to do with my account specifically. |

The retireee community uses Charles Swab for their international banking needs, it aparently eases tranfers and banking across boarders. Maybe look into opening an additional account with them? |
