Was this thread (like so many others before it!!!) supposed to stay positive? Or is it going to turn into an education for us dumb Americans about the international meddlings of our government?
note: I'd be willing to bet that many of the American posters here, given that we are in an international field, are more educated about our government's international goings-on than the negative American stereotypes might suggest. We are actually aware that there is a world beyond our vast borders!
I agree with what others have said--I don't like the government (at least its current incarnation) and many of its meddlings abroad, but I like the freedom and love the scenery. Especially the coastline in central California. Aaaaaaaaah, so lovely!
The people, like people everywhere, have their good points and bad points. One good point that I see is that we're a spirited bunch.

Greetings, Roger,
I don't know if "endure" is the right word. After all, American hegemony is far more benign than the Soviet Union's ever was.
Example: The French withdrew from NATO in the 1960s and demanded the withdrawal of American forces from France. America grumbled but did as it was told.
Now compare that to Hungary, 1956: Hungary tries to throw off Soviet domination and is instead invaded and its rebellion brutally crushed.
I know which one I'd prefer to live under. |

Yes, it's a positive thread - Americans are okay people, and America (I'm sure) is a nice place. I think a lot of people dislike the Anerican government though, and that can easily be interpreted as anti-Americanism, which it isn't. If I meet an American ESL teacher, I'm not going to judge him on the actions of his government.
Let's keep it positive folks! |

No beef with your rhetorical question whether the Balts or Hungarians liked the Russian bearhug, but I can safely assure you they never imagined in its place the American domination others have to endure. |
You know what all those people "never imagined"? That's pretty good, Rog. Can you bend spoons, too?

No problem with *your* perceptions, Rog. You can read minds - in Hungarian, yet!
