Hello all,

What is the university market like in Hong Kong? I am/have/done

I hope to start in fall 2019.

There's little to no discussion of uni positions in HK on this forum. I would guess that's because the lion's share of teaching positions are taken up by language centres, local schools and international schools. Best I can do at this moment is point you to this thread:

From what I can gather, Uni positions in HK are passed around as favors to established teachers with perfect reputations.

Admittedly, if you're a solid professor with plenty published you've got a shot, but competition is pretty fierce. Might be better to look at Shenzhen or around HK for a position. TBH the standard of living might be better too for you depending on what kind of lifestyle you want.

I love HK, but I wouldn't want to live there.

They have been looking for PhD students (fully funded programs).

Most jobs at the tertiary level will require you to be in a PhD program or have a PhD completed. There is no shortage of fully qualified applicants in HKG for instructor or ranked professorships.

HKU have a massive language centre section. From memory, the money is pretty good and the holidays less so.

I checked the messages I received about it. I don't know which Uni this is, but it's a Uni in HK:

Over 40k HKD per month starting salary, 10 month contract initially, quickly change to year/two yearly. Holidays start at 18 days, raise to 21, top out at 28 after a lot of service.

Just send your CV to a bunch of people in the English department and HR.
With photo and a nice cover letter.

Uni jobs are not advertised but are actually extremely easy to get by 'cold calling'.

Downside. Uni jobs don't pay unless you have a Ph.D

BA/MA anywhere from 6000 RMB to 14,000 RMB max and the latter is for places in China that no one else will live in thus the larger number.

Hiring time takes up to three months. Have all your docs certified before applying this will help the process. It will still take up to six weeks from the time they say YES WE WANT YOU.
