Apparently--don't quote me on that-- anyone with three generations back ( incl. one's own) and one relative horizontally and vertically, who were born or permanently resided on any part of what is now Ukrainian territory can apply for permanent residency and then, citizenship.

This applies to a person of any ethnic background, incl. Poles, Ashkenazis, ethnic Germans, Hungarians, Russians etc., anybody at all who has had this type of connection with the country.

I have two friends whose grandparents were ethnic Germans, one from Odessa and one from the Lviv area, and they qualify. Also, those ( ethnic) Poles who had been kicked out by the Red Army from E. Galicia and their descendants have the right to live in Ukraine and eventually get citizenship.

Many people are not aware of that and think only ethnic Ukrainians qualify, but apparently, a Jan Kowalski, an Ivan Ivanov, a Johan Schmidt and an Isaak Goldstein all have the right to be PR while a Ukrainian Canadian may have a more difficult path if more than three gens removed ( although I am not sure, either).

So, dig into your lineage, and you might find something. Then, any large law office can speed it up.
