Surprised to see this news. From reports in the media I knew that many universities in England were struggling financially, but had no idea that universities in Scotland were in so much debt. This is scary. And with the coronavirus upsetting the study plans of international students, the future looks even more precarious, in the short term at least. Let's hope things improve soon.

Just been reading up about all this and discovered that both the University of Aberdeen and the University of Dundee have joint ventures with Wuhan University. A wet market in Wuhan was where the coronavirus originated. Both universities are monitoring the situation carefully and have put some safety measures in place to protect staff and students.
