Utter BS. This is political propaganda in further attempts to demonize China prior to the election.

Recent events show that China is doing plenty right now to demonize itself. On that there should be no dispute.

There is ZERO evidence of foreigners being arrested arbitrarily or the dangers of this and "torture" once you are arbitrarily arrested. Actually, where there is evidence of this is happening to American citizens... is in the USA. Yeah, China has its issues. If your parent is a Chinese citizen who has illegally left China with billions, you may not be able to leave the country. These people are not arrested nor tortured, let alone American citizens working legally in-country. It's BS.

There was also nothing major done to mainland Chinese law recently. They are simply butt hurt their game in HK did not pan out. Well, I guess it kind of worked at getting people to not like China, maybe that was the whole point.

I mean, look at the detention of Ms. Meng in Canada and you know what arbitrary detention is all about.

You can't seriously be arguing that the Canadians engage in the practice of arbitrary arrest? Meng was arrested by Canadian authorities in accordance with an extradition treaty they have with the US. A Canadian judge will decide if there's enough reason to send her packing south. In the meantime Meng is out on bail, under house arrest in her $10 million Vancouver mansion, and has a 10pm curfew. In response to her arrest, two Canadians were quickly and arbitrarily detained by the Chinese and have been held in conditions that could only be described as torturous. Those two men will be accorded none of the due process Meng is currently enjoying. This is the kind of behavior the warning above refers to although I doubt the Chinese have the balls to kidnap any Americans.

So, Canada arrests its permanent residence because the US asked them to, but it is not arbitrary because...oh, because she gets to pay bail money. What would happen if she refused to pay any money? Sounds more like a ransom system than a justice system.

Just because lying, defrauding banks and ignoring Iran sanctions is common practice in one country, doesn’t mean it’s OK in all. What did the Canadians do or are supposed to have done? Absolutely no comparison. Well said BZ. Plenty of wumao still on the forum I see.

This thread is rapidly drifting off topic. Causing same will negatively affect one's continued tenure here.
