Ok...I really don't want to be blowing up these message boards...But I have a question that seems trivial, but I wanna know. Anyway, I am going for an AEON interview. My question from the website and everytihng I've read and pictures I've seen is that most of the men are wearing like blazer jackets (is that the right word?) but its like a dressy suit jacket thing. My question is, I don't own one. I plan to go to the interview wearing slacks, a nice shirt and a tie...but not jacket. Do people know if I should just buy one to make a good impression? Would the interview people really care if I don't wear one? I am a poor college student so I really cannot afford to buy one...but if need be...I will....Thanks all in advance for your responses.

If you get a job with AEON you are going to be expected to wear a suit anyway. Dress code is a jacket and tie for guys which is the business culture in Japan.

Check this thread.

PS. Cant you borrow a jacket from someone?

I'm with Paul on that one - if you have a friend your size, ask 'em about borrowing his Sunday suit.

Image is so important in Japan. A suit projects an image of professionalism. It's the office guy's uniform. Don't sabotage your interview by not following the cultural codes.

I'll just add my support to what others have written. Beg, borrow, or buy a suit (or at least a suit coat/blazer). And, now you know what you should ask your parents to get you for graduation.

Look at the AEON web site for pictures on how staff are dressed.

Beg, borrow or steal an OK business suit for the interview.

On arrival in Japan you'll probably need one suit for the training week, (tho' it has been known for someone to get thru the week without one).

At interview it is stressed that suits must be worn. Once in Japan then business suits become the preferred option with dress (ie creased) trousers and blazer or sports jacket acceptable according to the company literature. In practice things will probably be a little more relaxed as long as you look professional in your dress trousers, shirt and tie.

You'll need the suit for the interview, but if you get hired by AEON all you'll need to wear is a nice pair of slacks (no jeans), a dress shirt, and a tie. I worked for AEON for a year and never wore a suit to work, nor did any of my fellow male colleagues. As for the women, forget it, they were so casual I was often envious sweating away in my tie.
