They only found explosives in one of the planes, so I fail to see your point.

I am familiar with the correct Dylan lyric--after all, I was there in the 60s. Simply altered it a bit to reflect the posts on this thread.

Competition? No, I was merely pointing out that folks are more interested in posting their own stuff than in reading other people's posts. Probably because in the majority they are from the US--a highly egocentric culture?

Back to the rock-throwers. I served in the (Canadian) military, and these were the standard rules of engagement. I would assume that the British rules are quite similar. Bear in mind, these are always adapted to the specific situation. When confronted by a threat, a soldier will:

1. Ignore it. (This is usually the case with rock-throwers.)
2. Respond with threats of physical force.
3. Respond with physical force.
4. Respond with threats of deadly force.
5. Respond with a demonstration of deadly force (ie. shots in the air.)
6. Use deadly force (ie. shoot at people.)

So, something tells me that the soldier in question didn't jump through all the hoops. The "following orders" defence falls short.

Here's hoping to a post that doesn't further degenerate into a George Bush popularity contest...

I have been following events surrounding the crash of two Russian airliners on a German magazine's website, and according to SPIEGEL - daily updated several times - there never was a big doubt whether these aircraft were targets of terrorists. Someone said early on that they had "heard an explosion" before the aircraft crashed on the ground. NExt the recovery teams found explosive materials and when they checked the passenger lists they found names of terrorist suspects (women).

The terrorists are said to be "Black Widows"...wives of Chechen soldiers who were killed in the war with Russia.
