Are the rest of Australians like Queenslanders?

That's what I want to know!

i've noticed that when australians are confronted with the ills of their society, they blame it on the 'queenslanders' much in the same way americans blame the southerners for the 'stupid redneck' element of their society.

we can't just ignore a large segment of the population. i think both australians and americans should admit that there is a very large segment of their respective populations that is very ignorant and stupid.

and then we should tell the poms to stick it up their arse.

I think that is the kind of American and Australian admission the Poms would like to use anally.

The Queenslanders I have met haven't had the frantic need to rush around that Sydneysiders and New Yorkers have, the pomposity of Melburnians or Bostonians, or the religiosity of Adelaidians or those from the U.S. bible belt.

They are a relaxed easy going bunch, with a great state economy - growth rate above other states, and lead the way in bio-tech, aviation and other hi-tech, value-added industries. Generally not the symptoms of a state of

people. Queensland also attracts the largest internal migration from all other states.

Queenslanders know they have the best coastline in the world - want magic beaches - go to the Sunshine Coast or Noosa, want great diving - go to the Great Barrier reef, want tropics - go to the Daintree, want good fishing - go to the Torres Straits.

If you haven't been - it's a geat place and the people are generally friendly if you have the right attitude.

Biggest problem with Australians is that when you pick a fight with them - they enjoy both the blue and the make up drinks after. Really hard to stay mad with them!

Just realised that this whole topic is a non sequiter - nobody hates Aussies. They have the cutest amimals in the world, the best looking girls and guys, and they don't bomb anyone - they just look as if they are playing the game with the big boys which keeps them happy.

Aussies are really peaceable people. They just want to drink in peace.

slainte!

Impressive! Perhaps we should brush up on spelling, punctuation and distinguishing nouns from adjectives Smile Are you trying to say that it's not about garden shears? You'll get no argument there Smile

I really didn't want to post this, but, being a man of honour (English Cool ), my scruples had the better of me. Australia won more medals per capita in the Olympics than any other nation. We came 18th, the USA 22nd (behind Canada-21st Very Happy ), Cuba 2nd and China 30th. I'm going to really enjoy my nationalistic students' outpourings during the next few days Twisted Evil

Mr. Bridge...I have done that. I served my time, and now they will have to suffer without me.
Mr Magoo...Unfortunately, The Bahamas came in first in the per capita count....Australia was second. That's OK, the Bahamas is a pretty nice place, and we are a very gracious bunch.

I suspect that the per-capita thing might be an index of just how dull a place is. I mean, why would anyone swim backwards and forwards for hours every day unless there was nothing else to do?

Sport is just a sad, pre-packaged, low-fat imitation of life. I prefer the real thing.

Where the feck did you pull that one from?? Pomposity my arse.

The worst thing about this country is the government. The second worst thing is the mindless mob who keep voting the cretins in. Unforgiveable. John Howard needs either a cricket bat or a bullet to the head. Either will do me at this stage.

If you are fratenising with those from the western suburbs - maybe not - but from the flash areas - pompous is not a word - it's a life sentence!

Howard won last time because he took George Bush's lead and cheated - the children overboard affair was totally untrue. Will he pull another dodge - will he bribe someone to try another Bali, Twin Towers - who knows. But the paranoia that pervades the US was allowed to reign in Oz for a short period. With any luck, and the odd brain cell working, it shouldn't happen again.

So the parents didn't physically pick up their kids and throw them into the water. They still deliberately set fire to the boat, thus forcing their own children into the water. One way or another, those kids were going overboard. Those scumbags aren't fit to be parents. Imagine putting your own children at risk like that for moral blackmail. The whole children overboard affair is an excercise in semantics, the media is reading far too much into literal interepretations of what was said. Howard is a *beep* but I don't think he lied.
