Hi,
A few days ago some stranger on the China board was kind enough to give me a G Mail invite. If you'd like one, let me know. |

Ah definitely cool. Unfortunately I don't have a computer that can handle any of the required browsers. |

I have a few invites left as well. 1000 mb of storage and built-in google search engine. People are buying these invites on EBay. That's 500 times the storage of hotmail people. Just reply or pm with first and last name and current email. |

THis is the one where you get ads posted in the mail depending on the content of your messages. Google does a scan of the message and if you are talking about headaches in your posts they will post an ad for aspirins based on key words. One step away from Big Brother. |

Yup exactly. I actually find it quite convenient to have such info at my fingertips. I guess it depends on what you're into. I don't reckon Al-Qaeda will be signing up anytime soon. |

I am also hesitant about the Gmail. I guess I value my privacy more than most. I have a trusty old hotmail and yahoo. Hotmail should be increasing their inbox size in a few months time anyway. |

Yahoo is already up to 100mb for free and Hotmail Japan has gone up from 2mb to 250mb (!); don't fancy google peeking at my mail though.......! |

In the US, companies have been gatheirng information about you from your retail purchases for decades. Same thing with your credit rating. What Google is doing is even less intrusive. It's also impersonal; they are not finding information on YOU, per se. You're just A you out there somewhere, so to speak.
I got my account a few days ago and love it. Much faster than the other services.
Also, unlike Yahoo which only properly deals with one language at a time or Hotmail which only properly deals with English and one other language at a time, Gmail allows you to send and recieve in multiple languages in one email without fiddling with any setting in either your account or your browser. That's very important for me. It is currently only offered with an English interface, however.
As for "trusty old Hotmail and Yahoo" as someone called it, back a few years ago when I had a MailCity account, I had problems sending to friends with Hotmail (since Billy Boy took over). MailCity said Hotmail was periodically disconnecting the "pipe" to them. I've recently read on the Web that some people say that Hotmail is blocking Gmail invites and Yahoo is stuffing them in the bulk mail folder.
To the person who said their computer couldn't run the required browsers: Dude, are you on a Commodore 64 or something?
Since my friends are all happy with their one ISP based email address, I gave away two invites and will be giving out two more when two other folks get back to me, so my phone lines are closed |

Nope, Mac OS 9, which is rightly no longer supported because it sucks so badly.
It needs Mozilla 1.4, I can get 1.3.1, it needs Netscape 7.1, I can get 7.0.2. It's like that across the board. |

Google just gave me more invites. Want one? Email me with your name and email address (preferably not Hotmail or Yahoo).
Maybe everyone went home already? |

If you are really determined to give these away, I believe there are US soldiers with overseas postings who would be very grateful. |

They're certainly more than welcome. I hear they frequent Dave's. I'm just tickled that some stranger gave me one, so I'm giving them away -- since my friends are all lame |
