has anyone ever been to matsudo city, chiba? or even better live there? just wondering how long it takes to get into tokyo and what type of place it is to live in.
also, where can i find any photos of typical 80,000 yen apartments in the tokyo area (probably for 4 people sharing)??? my curiosity is getting the better of me.
and finally, is anyone leaving for japan on the 20th sept to work with westgate for 3 months? perhaps you were also advised that you may be in matsudo city. you never know, we could become flat mates... |

Zorro,
Matsudo is about an hour or less to Shinjuku on the Joban train line. It's a commuter city with most ammenities close by - shopping and the like - and it's surprisingly rural when you get outside the city limits.
Feel free to PM me if you want more details. |

glenski, they won't be 80k apartments - rather each of the 4 people will be paying westgate 80k to live there. |

Thats 320,000 yen for one apartment which probably rents for half that privately. Westgate must be laughing all the way to the bank. |

BenJ, you're kidding right? I looked at apartments on the Joban/Chiyoda line. Y100,000 will get you a three room place easily...
If that's what Westgate has priced out for their teachers, Y80,000/mo, that's robbery. How could they get away with that? |

Because they can, thats why and no one says anything about it.
What's a person here for 3 months and no money for key money and renting their own apartment and no plans to stay in the country going to do about it anyway? |

If you're going to pay 80,000 to share an apartment with 3 people that's outrageous.
You definitely don't have to use Westgates housing if you don't want to!
If you do a search "Gaijin house Matsudo" you come up with this:
Guesthouses with sauna, work-out machines, billiard table and free internet/ in Matsudo (\54,000~) in Kitakoshigaya (\49,000~), in Jujo (\60,000~), in Shinjuku (\75,000~), in Kamata (\65,000~), in Shiki (\53,000~), \20,000 deposit (refundable) for reservation. J&F Plaza 03-5366-6356,
Here's the link to the Matsudo guest house:
http://www.jafnet.co.jp/plaza/guesthouse/guest05/matsudoe.htm
They have them all over the place. |

I dont know definite information at all, I am just guessing as I know each Westgate teacher pays the same amount - similar to the NOVA setup I guess. |

Matsudo is Chiba, but it could almost be considered East Tokyo. It is 30 mins by Joaban express train to Ueno. There is lots of everything in that area, and it is close to Kashiwa and Kita senju.
If Westgate is charging 80,000 each a month to share, I would say go for a LEO PALACE over that. |

I live in Matsudo its a bit like Brixton in London but with Neon...Shopping and ameneties arent too bad, there is a very good sports centere and "super sento" (baths) just outside the sprawl (?) it does have the Bandai Museum which is free entry (ok I like Bandai stuff, its a boon for me) Matsudo does have a rep for mizu shobai, etc, etc (water trade = prostitution) as does Kashiwa (on the Joban line...aka "Little Shibuya") as far as my wanderings have been I havent seen anything too sleazy or distasteful, only one good cinema to speak of, but the usual "depato's" and stuff...Matsudo does have a very good international centre for japanese studies and exchange programmes too....though your rent does seem, very, very, very high... Im sharing a new (96 built) apato with 2 rooms and nice big kitchen, clean, all mod cons, etc...2 people...60,000 a month (in total, 30,000 each), the predominant letting agency in the area seems to be housepartner and apaman, ask your Japanese collegues for info or if they can help you out, I had no problem setting up an apartment with HP, seem to be quite foreigner friendly (just in my experience tho, so dont quote me)
tho..the printer at GeraGera internet cafe is always broken.... |
