Chris12 you not know the Japanese culture so don't pretend you know! You need spend more time studying martial arts and Japanese culture and less time preaching! |

Lovechild, I suppose you didn't write this post either!?! I read all your post. It wasn't hard to figure out who you are. Yes, I know who you are! You haven't changed! Still upset that I turned you down? You are physically beautiful, but I was married at the time, and since I loved my wife, I was faithful to her. You had to ruin my marriage! Why? To get revenge? Why did you have to have an affair with my wife? The incident caused us to get divorced. She told me after being with you, she realized that she likes women better than men. |

| I did karate at the local elementary school gym. It was great. The instructor had no problem accepting foreigners. There was also no mumbo-jumbo polictical bs. If you wanted to learn, he taught. The fees were quite low, too. When I think back to it, I just realized that I was in a class full of 10 year olds, but I didn't mind. I loved it. I was actually the english teacher at the elementary schools in that city, so all the could knew me by name. I've done a lot of martial arts in my time and that dojo in Japan was by far the best one. I never met such a humble man in my life, yet he could rip anyone to shreds with a blow and still so gentle. |

Thanks Lovechild,
I appreciate the support but I don't think chris12 is such a bad guy. In some of his statements I felt that he was disrespecting Aikido by saying that the training wasn't valid compared to other arts. I took this as an attack on Aikido, therefore I responded from an emotional stand point. Maybe chris12 isn't the most eloquent of speakers, but I don't think his intentions were all too bad.
I would suggest to let this one slide and to focus on the beauty of all that we do. |

I didn't mean any disrespect to Aikido. I was trying to point out the focus is on something different. I aggreed with what you wrote about not comparing, because it is not that one martial art is better or worse than another, just different. I think Aikido is a very spiritual martial art and so the focus is not on beating someone up. |

I knew it! Since "IT" appeared on the scene I could sense there was a connection with the scumbag side of English teaching: a racist eikaiwa owner!

Please stop with the internet tough guy routine. Everybody is a scrapper behind a monitor and keyboard.
Anyway, my 2 cents about Aikido if anyone is intereted. I've been involved with martial arts all my life and studied 2 years of Yoshinkan Aikido (the style taught to the Japanese riot police). Although I didn't find the style practical (it was too "situation based") the training was reasonably physical and the style is definitely a valid martial art. There is a great amount of discipline involved, particularily at the higher levels. It depends what you're looking for...if you want to defend yourself I'd recommend boxing and freestyle wrestling, but if you want a decent workout with a spirtual side I think Aikido might be for you. |

This might sound strange, but...
I love Kung Fu and studied it for about two years back when I was a teenager. I can't say I remember much of it now, though, but I really do want to start taking classes again. Being in Japan - the land of Akido and Karate - I don't think my chances of finding a school are that great...
Perhaps someone here knows a place in the Kansai area that teaches Kung Fu and isn't gaijinophobic? Any information you could provide would be a huge help to me and my ever expanding tummy ;)

Why don't you consider taking Shoenji Kenpo karate, because the roots are from China? You might find it similar to the wu shu style you practice.
Kung fu actually means master of. If not interested in trying Shoenji Kenpo look in the yellow pages for a Chinese style martial art dozo, I am sure there are Chinese style martial art schools in the Kansai area. Each kung fu style has a unique style. Some style are good for tall people, some good for short. A very famous style that was one of the first styles that Bruce Lee learned was Wing Chung. He's obviously never been to a judo dojo in 'the west' or a Japanese high school judo dojo either. There's a reason the Japanese go to *Europe* to train at the higher levels for competition, and never have I seen as much time wasting and messing about as at high school clubs. |

I used to study Northern Shou Lin Eagle Claw back in Maimi, but, I'd be open to any of the more fluid Kung Fu styles, Wu Shu (like) included.

| If anything...people come to Japan to train in Judo at its highest levels. The past Olympic Judo Tournament should speak for itself. |
