A student told me this so you can take it to the bank. Apparently people think US money is made from recycled garbage.
I think she was dissing me even though I am from Canada. Perhaps this is an Al quida plot. I'm no paper expert but I don't think it's true.( I do have a degree in "recycled garbage" though. ) These people will stop at nothing in their Anti-Americanism.
If greenbacks are such garbage why will you steal them the minute I turn my back...?...Lunacy knows no borders!!! |

One of my students thoughtfully placed on my desk an Osama Bin Laden doll to greet me when I came into class.
Personally I don't see the virtue in this type of "underdog", because terrorism is really the oppressor, not his enemies. This is a man who is rich beyond the dreams of his people, who would not be rich if not for industrialization and globalization. Hypocrites with little historical vision, dogmatically-speaking, but under the veneer of moral indignation is the truer lust for power. I can understand the frustration of people forced to live in abject poverty and how that can color their views of a "prosperous" nation; but don't preach to me about domination when American ideals are about cultural inclusiveness not assimilation, contrasted to ideals that are entrenched in anachronistic religious beliefs and monocultural values. In my opinion that's a pretty damned good argument for America.
If you're talking about sheer force of foreign policy, show me a country that is not engaged in a materialistic struggle for power! |

Coming from Australia, I must admit that I am a little disappointed in the "greenness" of the greenbacks. Surely the people with vision impairment and elderly people (such as myself) have a problem distinguishing the notes?
Australia notes, are much more colourful and more easily recognised. |

Oz notes are prettier, but they are worth much less.
I do like the almost indestructability of them though. |

The almost indestructibility of which? Oz notes?
My favorite banknotes have always been the French francs, especially the 50 -- so cute!

I've only seen them in pictures, sadly. How are they indestructible? Do they not rip? Burn? |

The 100,000 Indonesian rupiah note and the Mexican 20 peso note are also made of plastic. The idea is that they last longer and save printing costs. They're also more difficult to counterfeit.
The only problem is that they don't have the crisp feel of paper - it's just not the same to hold a handful of plastic slips as it is to have a bundle of cold hard paper cash. |

Some conspiratorial origami (have fun with your students).
First,
Then,
Next,
Then flip it over!

US dollar notes are made out of cotton from recycled denim jeans. Your student was basically right.
Gives a whole new slant to the meaning of "greenbacks". |

So what? A lot of the water you drink on a daily basis has most likely been through the intestines of (at least) one dinosaur. Na, und? Shall we say it is recycled dinosaur urine? |

Actualy Ludwig, if you live in London the odds are that your drinkig water has been through human intestines - twenty-nine times in total. |
