The idea of striking it rich doesn't really compute here anymore. Unless you want to wear yourself out and work day and night-even on weekends-you're probably going to be in the same boat as most of us here and save an average amount of money, but nothing like the good old days.

I figure it's a load off right now just teaching 25 or so hours a week anyway. You figure if you can get by without paying taxes-which some can here-you can net 60,000 a month on average. If you want to save a 1000 US dollars a month you'd have to put away more than half of that. This doesn't leave you with much to play with, or to enjoy a good meal now and then, so you'd have to live like the head-shaven Canadian I met here who said he was earning NT 130,000 a month and I guess, whom had some mental problems as a result. Either that or the guy just thought he was 'The King of Taiwan.' I couldn't figure this out.

You could probably make the same amount or more if you went to any major American city and became a bartender. 12 to 15 dollars an hour is not that great considering the amount of work and hassles on and off the job. Add the 13% to 20% tax deduction into the mix and you could do a lot better elsewhere.
On the positive side the lower wages are bringing in more people with an interest in teaching as opposed to the wandering back packer.
In the end many go home empty handed and with a bad taste in the mouth.

I get your point, Aristotle. I've kind of chosen this as a vocation so it doesn't bother me too much. I could make more money, but my point is that you have to wear yourself out pretty much if you REALLY WANT TO STRIKE IT RICH!!

Anyone have any get-rich stories otherwise?
