I've been in Canada for a month or more now...

Seen a few good things....Live Ice Hockey..Rocky Mountains...Good Live Music...!

What really pees me off however are the excessive laws and rules of an ultra safe conservative society. It just makes me feel like I am living in a nanny state with laws implemented by people in uniform who would do the South African Police circa 1979 credit !!!!!

For Example.....

Don't cross the road...the white man isn't flashing....if you do you'll get fined.

People telling me not to drive in British Columbia at night.....you'll hit an animal.!!!!!

Speed limits on highways and in urban areas that are far too slow!
C'mon 60km ph on a highway!!!!

We wanted to get a cat....but it must wear a collar! And if it goes onto someone elses property we could get fined!

Police out in entertainment districts to arrest/fine excessive noise from people pub crawling!

Photo ID required to collect our photos!

Some poor sod getting arrested at Metro station for having can of beer.

Couldn't take photo in Ice Hockey Stadium because of Copyright......WTF are you on about..I don't work for associated press....!!!!!!

A Canadian Friend of ours who got thrown out of a mall for loitering......he'd only just ordered his meal from the food court!!!!!!

Just the general 'nodding dog' syndrome of people out here to accept pointless and to be blunt retarded laws really irks me!
I've worked in and travelled to plenty of countries around the world....but never before have I been anywhere where the entire adult nation is treated like they are all 15 years old.!

Also the general view of white people I have met and talked to here is that if a black/native guy is stopped and searched by police then it's probably because he deserves it.
Not because the predominantly white police force is racist and using victimisation tactics!

If I had my way I'd hand the country back to what is left of the Native Indians. They'd make it a far more tolerant and pleasant place to be and after all.........

It is their country!

Don't like it? Don't go there... Most Canadians I know seem to think their country is the ducks nuts.

What you're talking about is certainly a big part of cultural adjustment, isn't it?

I sort of feel the same way about the USA now when I go back there to visit. Compared to Mexico, in the USA it seems there are laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances for absolutely everything and an obsession for enforcing them. Also, people there are ready to sue for anything and everything at the drop of a hat.

I've never spent time in Canada, but I can identify with your feelings of being over-protected.

Ben Round De Bloc....
Your empathy is much appreciated..I'm glad I am not the only guy who feels this way. Canada is a very beautiful country indeed....and a pleasure to drive around....but I agree with you entirely....People in this part of the world gain visible pleasure from enforcing the multitude of laws and rules.
From Policeman ...Customs...Immigration..... to shopworkers and sporting stewards I have never come across such glee and self satisfaction anywhere in the world.
Frankly it is not only disturbing but also quite scary.....!!

As for the 'intellectual' from Australia(what a suprise)!!!!.....Your advice is 'don't go there if you don't like it.'!!!....Can I ask you how the hell i would know what a place is TRULY like UNLESS I go there.

Stick to your surfing 'mate' and leave the thinking to the rest of the human race.!

I have to agree with the Aussie: if you don't like it there, go somewhere else. Why be miserable? Question

It's called "traffic safety". Might want to look into it sometime when you go back home.

Never heard of that one before....

Again, traffic safety. What is more important: You getting somewhere a bit faster, or Old Farmer Joe crossing the street safely without having to worry about some car whizzing around the corner?

This is common sense. If YOUR cat shits on my property or tears up my garden or kills my fish in my pond, it is your responsibility. It's logical.

Why should people who are living in "X" neighbourhood have to listen to twits yelling at all hours of the evening? It's called "There are other people on the planet besides you".

Look into it sometime.

How old was he?

was it an open cansister?

Was he drunk in a public place?

Ice Hockey Stadium. Private property. 'Nuff said.

Private property. are you saying that you should not be allowed to kick someone out of your own house?

Then leave. You don't like Canada? Then Canada doesn't like you.

That's ludicrious.

Rolling Eyes

100 men enroll to be a police officer in Canada.

87 are white.

13 are not.

The force is hiring only 25 cops this year.

It turns out 25 new cops: 12 are white.

So don't give me any BS.....my friend lost a job because he was white.

Meh!

Here's a summary:

You're a troll.

Go to hell.

And who are you Is650 or whatever the hell your name is to tell me what to do with my life!
Get on with living your own.....and a little less of telling others how to organise theirs.
I came to Canada to spend a few months with my Canadian girlfriend who lives here....and also to work voluntarily for United Way.

I am not here as a tourist/backpacker who thinks 'oh this ain't so great..think i'll fly down to Brazil and get some fun.'

If you had read my previous postings on this thread I am positive about certain aspects of being here but negative re unneccessary laws and rules.

Read before you write!

For the Great Wall of Whiner....
No doubt about it....head of dix.....you are CANADIAN...
And only make me feel thankful i am not!

Sorry Boy Wonder, if you are in British Columbia, you are not in Canada. Canada ends at the Ontario/Manitoba border. Anything west of Wawa, Ontario is definitely NOT Canada.

Okay...so all you westerners can now flame me.

And Boy Wonder, everything you mentioned is the reason why I am now in China...or as I like to call it...the real world. No safety net here.

Hmmm..I've never heard someone trash Canada that much and I've never heard of any of those things happening in Ontario (centre of the universe..hahaha) well, except for drinking in public is a big no-no. Why? only low lifes drink in public. Wink

I agree with previous posters. If you don't like Canada then just go back to your own perfect country. Plain and simple. It will save you a lot of grief and further bitching on a fine forum like this.
