The "relationship" is of a rather specific nature. Maybe this is one of those folksy things that everybody is supposed to accept without questioning, you know, right up there with "Hell, they're all crazy over there anyway ho ho ho..."

That was my interpretation as well.

What does the documentation of the three-fold promise have to do with Roger's faulty logic? |
I don't want to speak for Roger, but I do believe that's the background story for Roger's assertion (Ishmael/Isaac/inheritance rights).
Yes, BD, Roger could have clarified his paragraph, or he could have used different sentence structure (ie., "It's therefore an inter4necine warfare that's never going to end, especially if outsiders interfere on the side of one of them" instead of It's therefore an inter4necine warfare that's never going to end. Especially if outsiders interfere on the side of one of them.").
Roger, what I really want to know is what you mean by "inter4necine."

Hello, Colleeen,
for reasons I cannot explain I have not been able until this afternoon to access the GENERAL DISCUSSION FORUM.
My answer - or clarification - would be as you already phrased it: This is an internecine war that is never going to end.
Has anyone ever been to Hebron? The site where Abraham and Sarah are supposed to be buried... Well, today it is a hotly-disputed piece of territory claimed by both sides with arms and terrorist means.
Or Jerusalem... the Wailing Wall. Listen to the Jews reciting how the Jordanians desecrated the place by defecating over it prior to 1967... and listen to Arabs telling you how the Jews have been encroaching on their areas...
The Jews suicide at Massada - impressive; now how many peoples conquered by the ancient Israelites killed themselves? We don't know since history has always been written by the victors.
But just to make a point about the problematic claims to this place or that piece of land: Jericho is the world's oldest site of a town - it has been dated back to 7000 B.C.; we also know that TROY must have been around for at least 5000 or perhaps 6000 years where its ruins are because Troy was built over the ruins of 12 or 13 previous city foundations.
Since we are not even able to pin-point an exact place of origin of relatively recent migrants such as the Germanic tribes that invaded Europe and Rome 2 millenia ago, yet we have established that their language is related to Greek as another Indo-European language, how do we know then where all those peoples originated that built Jericho, Byblos (in present-day Lebanon, a city that was built at least 3000 B.C.) and those layers of Troy that have not been unearthed?
This to repudiate the allegation that Israel is the Israelites! We don't know where they came from before they roamed Palestine, Egypt, Mesopotamia. We only know they have for thousands of years been a homogeneous population - but that doesn't make them a separate race, does it? It's their religion that has kept them apart from the rest of humanity, nothing else.
And, this very religion has caused not a little friction with other populations - hence anti-Jewish pogroms, persecutions, massacres. The Jews were, perhaps, the only population during tRoman empire that had a law that strictly forbade them to intermarry.
This law has been maintained to this day in orthodox Jewish communities.
Didn't a guilt-haunted West help the Jews become "Israelis" - at the expense of their semitic kin called the Philistines/Palestinians in the 20eth century?
How so convenient for the combined Western world ridden by a guilt complex over how they misjudged, mismanaged the Jewish issue in Nazi-occupied Europe - to fina largely underdeveloped "ancestral" homeland of the JEws where there were only minor villages and small towns neglected during the Ottoman rule, waiting to be lifted to the modern era by an influx of westernised fellow semites?
But it backfired... I guess it had to backfire because you can't transplant oasis dwellers like you can transplant city dwellers from NY to Jo'burg.
Those oasis dwellers are far more attached to their home turf than the itinerant Jews have ever been in their wanderings from Egypt to England and even to China where thousands of them were saved too from the Nazi terror.
In such hostile lands - we can see this everywhere from the ME to Afghanistan and in Xinjiang, China - fellow semites are not necessarily regarded as brothers but much more likely resented as competitors for scarce resources and land.
There is very little national cohesion among these tribes - and a lot more tribal loyalism.
A lifestyle difference, really. |

America went crazy a long time ago.
JT
http://tomdispatch.com/
"Thanks to the declassification and release (by The National Security Archive) of documents related to America's first Single Integrated Operational Plan (SIOP), developed in 1960, we now know just how true this was over four decades ago. What we know, in fact, is that our military high command had laid out, and our top civilian leadership approved, a plan for the possible launching of a first strike meant to deliver over 3,200 nuclear weapons to 1,060 targets in the then-Communist world. Had all gone well, at least 130 cities would have simply ceased to exist. Official (classified) estimates of casualties from such an attack ran to 285 million dead and 40 million injured -- and some military men feared that the lethal effects of fallout on the United States itself from such an apocalyptic attack might be devastating. Given the underestimation of those fallout effects at the time, such an attack might indeed have meant, in a world of bizarre imperial conundrums, hegemony rather than survival. As it happens, we've had a SIOP ever since and still have one today. But what kind of an instrument of overkill it may be remains highly classified." |

Just do a search using "Bush lawsuit 9/11 families" and see what kind of sites you come up with. This has been going on for more than 2 years, but the media are afraid to talk about it.
It should be the biggest news story of the century!
You can start here:
http://www.911forthetruth.com/
Statement of the Case
Ellen Mariani filed a civil RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) action lawsuit against President Bush and other high level members of his administration based upon prior knowledge of 9/11; knowingly failing to act, prevent or warn of 911; and the ongoing obstruction of justice by covering up the truth of 9/11; all in violation of the laws of the United States.
Ellen Mariani seeks judicial redress to restore the U.S. Constitution's"Separation of Powers" clause so never again will another "911" occur on our land. We would like to thank all of those individuals whom have signed our petition and/or
made a contribution.
Please tell your friends about our updated site and encourage them to sign our petition.
A message from Phil Berg, attorney for Ellen Mariani, wife of 9/11 victim
A call to unity - 9/11 for the truth!
"It is time for a non-violent revolution by the millions of Americans who are tired of their rights being diminished by the Bush Administration; tired of the lies of the Bush Administration; tired of the lies about Iraq; and tired and disgusted with the lies about 9/11. NOW is the time to stand tall together and bring back our freedoms as they stood under the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States.
It is time to unite - hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder."

the US media has become kind of wimpy lately, as well as a lot of the media coming under control of an increasingly small number of corporations. a month or so ago one of the major networks decided to air a show honoring the soldiers who had died in iraq but an entire section of the US wasn't able to see it as the local media owner thought it was 'anti-war' and refused to show it. not to mention all the smaller companies that decided to ban the dixie chicks.
on the other hand, a lot of media outfits are concerned about being labelled as 'liberal.' CBS is currently being called 'liberally biased' by conservative pundits for releasing those bush national guard records. now CBS is on the defensive and dan rather is having his credibility questioned. it's a smear campaign.
i usually read the BBC for most news. |

Lately, Seth?
There has been no free press (including radio and tv) in the US since Reagan bombed Libya in April of 1986, when all the US reporters nodded their heads and said what a great idea it was, and a guy from the BBC said that it was in fact a terrible idea, which would have negative repercussions in the Arab world for many years to come--at which point he was jerked off the air. When that happened, and we had to start getting our news via short wave radio, I said that free press was history. Almost everybody thought I was exaggerating.
Last February the opposition leader in the House of Commons mentioned the incident I just described as being the takeover of the media by the US government--a hot issue at that moment, as 3 of the top heads had just rolled at the BBC.
If that's lately--okay--I suppose relative to the geosynclinal cycle it was just a couple of seconds ago.... |

| An interview with Chomsky is featured in today's La Jornada (excellent Mexican newspaper--one of the world's best--available in internet at www.jornada.unam.mx) saying that he is beginning to feel more optimistic, given that papers such as La Jornada and other news sources exist in internet to defy the control of the established media.... |

| Going back to Roger's point about Israel being made at the expense of others, I often wonder about these post war decisions that just set the world up for more trouble-ie the Berlin wall/eastern block formation, N. and S. Korea. What were they thinking? |

Not true. The statistics, if accurate, would appear to indicate that, in the US, a Doctor, on average, is 9 000 times more likely to be culpable in a case of accidental death as would be a gun owner.
Doctors often have to make urgent decisions as to the best treatment of sick and dying people; thereby saving millions of lives. Occasionally they make a mistake and, given the nature of some of their jobs and the life-threatening procedures they have to carry out, sometimes those mistakes lead to the death of a patient.
Gun owners tend, quite often, to cause the accidental death of themselves or a family member. They also quite often shoot, in an extremely non-accidental manner, themselves, family members, friends, love-rivals, enemies and total strangers; not to mention a fair number of Iraqis, Afghanis, "yellow men" ( and women and children), "black men (women and children), etc etc etc.
Whether they are more or less dangerous than extreme right wing racists with a negligible grasp of statistics is open to debate... |
