Hey,good choice! That Uranus,a tough one! But you know, now,a lot of the so-called ,would be "teachers' who cruise this forum will be wanting to know "How can I contact someone on Uranus about teaching there?"
You know the old line"I have no degree, but I WANT to Teach on Uranus!" Nice choice, but I think you have opened up the floodagates.Extrasterrestrial TESOL....we can call it "TESLE"..Teaching English as a Second Language to Extraterrestrials....and some scammy school can come up with a certificate program that "you just must have in order to teach on other planets" Poor Martians...poor ET's everywhere! |

Ah, bnix, not so hostile, please! Maybe they don't want to teach English.
How about klingonian? If they advertised teaching this lingo all doors would open to them.
Uncle Rummy is rumoured to have discussed with the honchos of America's spy networks whether they could befriend fundamentalist terrorists simply by pushing a new world language to replace English ("American").
The world would be a lot safer if we all spoke no English anymore...
Who knows whether English is spoken on Uranus? |

Not at all....just sarcastic...and telling the truth (yes okay, the truth from my point of view, before y'all get upset).Rog...as for that quote".....all doors would open to them"Please,Rog,let's leave "doors" out of this.At last report, he was either sitting in an oubliette somewhere in Qatar...or he had done a presto-chango and had beciome'Another poster".
I don't know.... biffenbaker.....mutt...something like that.Who knows?Who really cares? A TROLL BY ANY OTHER NAME IS STILL A TROLL! (Whoops!Fell back into that Ba-a--d habit of using the uppercase).
Who knows, maybe Uranus will become THE(Whoops! There I go again!) place to teach TESOL.Wonder if they know about Barbie and Ken yet... |

Dangerous ? How about Algeria where 31 European tourists were kidnapped recently. Last I heard they were still missing, presumanly with their throats slit. The American media ignored this having other things to do, with the good guys kickcin sh** out of the Ayrakis.
Over on the Africa Forum there is a guy who reckons that Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo could be a nice spot for a gig TEFLing.
He has a buddy who goes there to buy goldfish and he says it is really safe.
I mean where do these people come from ?

Dear Reality:
Ok, a serious answer for you!
Here's an alphabetical list of countries that comes to mind when the topic is high rates of crime and/or general danger:
Angola
Balkans
Columbia
Cote D' Ivoire
India
Indonesia
Iraq
Israel
Nigeria
Pakistan
Philippines
South Africa
the USA
Uzbekistan
Venezuela
Zimbabwe
This list was brought to you by: www.aneki.com/dangerous.html
PS: Of the countries on this list, I have had the great fortune of living in 2 which are on the list: the USA and the Philippines, and I miraculously survived both. |

The Algerian army just found/freed 17 of those tourists. So heck, Algeria's safe now! And scot, your suggestion that an event which does not involve an American could still be newsworthy is highly offensive. I certainly hope you never intend to apply for a job in the U.S. media. |

Hey, when your number's up, what does it matter which country you're in?
Que sera, sera, kismet, fate. etc. I've already posted this on the Saudi forum, but just in case you missed it:
The speaker is Death
There was a merchant in Bagdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture, now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threating getsture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra.
As we say over here, it's all inshallah.
Regards,
John |

Kent - both lists suck big time.
How does India get on the most dangerous list? And look into some of their other statistics and it gets weirder - they have something called "GDP by purchasing power parity", which aappears to be a way of easing western consciences by making poverty disappear through statistics. They suggest that the adjusted GFP of India is a quarter that of Saudi, and that Sri Lanka is as rich as Syria and a third as rich as Saudi.
As for the list of cities. Most of the ones at the top come from Canada, New Zealand, Austrial and Germany. Quality of life? Maybe a load of quality but certainly no life! |
