I like a rant, but heres an odd one....mebbe EVERYBODY knows this , but as a self confessed japanophile I never knew this....

If a relaxed opportune moment arises in a lesson....ask a Japanese Student if they can blow a rasberry...you know...the poo sound...stick out your tounge a little between your lips, slightly grip the tounge with your teeth, push air out through the bottom lip...a razzer...a poo-pee noise...a fart sound...or "bu-bu" as they say here...

MOST JAPANESE PEOPLE CANT BLOW A RAZZER

Ive asked many J-friends and collegues "kore dekiru no....RAZZER SOUND"

Only one has been able to do it !

Please tell me if your J-pals can do it !

I'm living in london. But I passed a Japanese girl in the street, so i asked her. She said I was more of a 'light peach'. Then her boyfriend floored me.

I'll keep asking though, cos that could have gone either way.

I am intrigued. I am going to actively seek out Japanese residents of Istanbul and ask them to perform this feat. I'll let you know the results.

As soon as I read your post and finished laughing my a$$ off, I asked my jr. high students and teachers alike. No dice! Except as soon as I challenge them to do something like that, I get about a dozen counter-challenges to do strange stuff with my body... Like curl my tongue, whip my fingers to make a snappy-sound, arm-in-armpit farts, etc, etc. After all, it's not just the gaijin that's multi-talented! Smile

Almost as stupid as walking around and asking if people can lick their elbow.

90% of the people you tell this to will try, even though it's impossible.

I noticed a lot of Japanese can't wink, either. As for the rasberry, I didn't even know that's what we call it.
