I'm looking to buy the English version of Windows XP(and other stuff) in Japan or online. Is it cheaper to buy it online or here? Any shop names on Osaka would be helpful.

User Side in Akihabara Tokyo has English versions of Windows.

Any computer parts store that sells motherboards, video cards, cases etc, should have English Windows.

I don't Know if User Side is a chain or just one lone store. They may have one in Osaka. I bought XP for about 11,000 yen. You might be better off just odering it online and having it mailed to you rather than go through the hassle of trying to locate one.

Thanks for the info!

Btw you paid only 11,000 for XP? Most places(Yodobashi, Bic, Yamada, etc) are selling the Japanese version for over 20,000. Is the price almost half b/c it's the English version?

You can also dl off of the net, which is free. But it might be infected with virus & it's illegal in Japan...awww....ok buy it here then.

Oh, btw, if I go to like a Sony store in Japan, will I be able to find a notebook which is in Eng as well as having the Eng keyboard? (if not then I'll just get a separate keyboard)

Just do a search on Window XP download & you'll get a bunch of sites offering it. Be careful cuz those sites are virus, popup ads, & spam/spyware infected. Make sure you open all your anit virus, popup & spyware programs b4 going there (which you can also get them off the net for free). The setup file itself might also be infected with worms too. But you can clean them out. If you're not into the hassle then just buy it, it's not so expensive (but when I got mine a few yrs ago, it was really expensive, plus at that time I was still in Canada).

Be cautious. It's one thing to lead people in the direction of certain websites, but to openly advocate and discuss that you have pirated software isn't too cool. Especially in Japan where they do crack down are piracy. Haven't you seen the toll free numbers and the posters on the train?

I found this place very good for English software, however it's in the States. http://www.saveateagle.com/software.html

Shipping is crazy, but if you go in with a friend, it's better. Regardless, it's cheaper than if you bought it in Japan.
