Hi fellow teachers! I'm coming home to Australia and I need to know what the TESL casual pay rates are like in Oz? I have a BA and CELTA and lots of experience. I need to get a guide on what the rates are in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne - do they differ? Cheers - thx a lot! Very Happy

Macca,

There's another post about this somewhere here on the forum, but in Brisbane it's roughly $30 per hour for private language school teaching.

Good luck!

Lozwich.

Thanks compadres! Bit of a worry about the upping of qualification criteria - ouch! I'm going to have to just hit Melbourne and hope I think.

Do you know which city has the healthiest ESL market? Or are they all a bit flat? Do the pay rates vary that much state to state?

Maybe I'll end up having to work at DJ's for a while to get myself established - Rolling Eyes

I've always fancied being a real pedagogue so maybe a van and the Grande Tour of Oz that I have always wanted to do eh? That way I can do some hands-on research re: the ESL job market town by town.

Thx again to both of you for your replies. XXX
