Due to our extrememly high dollar, as you Canadians will know, I seem to be losing about $200 per 1cent increase in the dollar. I waited until the last minute to send money home and now it looks like Im gonna be screwed. So my question is...

Is it feasible to get a money order or something like that, send it home Reg mail and let my mom cash it when the dollar relaxes a bit more. IS there an expiration with money orders? Any experience in this?

I have only 2 more months here and the money thing is really starting to worry me. I know I should have sent it already but I didnt.

Any ideas?

No, you're screwed. It's either wait with it, or convert it now and send it. Generally, it seems like it isn't going to swing either way right now. In the end, we're stuck around the 86 mark right now. I remember on September 11th, it was around 72.

The rate is more like 90 yen to the dollar. 86 would be great.

Don't they do the conversion right there on the spot? I thought with the postal money orders, you tell them that you want to send 200,000 yen for example, and they do a conversion into Canadian dollars. In addition, you must have your passport or something too, right? I just usually use the Lloyds service.

It's been awhile for me too, I also use Lloyds, but I think they ask you if you want it in Cdn or Japanese funds. Could be wrong. If it is in Cdn, than the conversion is done right then. I found the rates slightly better at Lloyds than the PO.
