To the people who know could you please enlighten me? Of course I realise Ankgor and the capital are worth visiting but if you could spare a few hidden destinations I would be eternally grateful. We have a limited to time to travel if we do not decide to teach in Cambodia, probably under a month.
Thank you

I went the safe route... and it wasnt all that safe... by going flying to Siem Reap from Hochiminh, then riding on the roof of a boat for 5 hours to the capital...then taking a 10 hour (175km) bus ride with a driver on a suicide mission back to Vietnam. I wouldn't do anything other than that.... but if you find out something else, let me know! I notice that nobody has replied...maybe there is a reason why. Or maybe you could camp in a field somewhere...(not funny, I know..sorry) |

Ghost just visited Sihanoukville (a beach resort) and Phnom Penh. Both places were fine. Sihanoukville has some cheap guest houses (about $6 a night), and the beach is fine. There are few tourists there. There are also several language schools there.
Phnom Penh is better and more quiet than Bangkok, which ghost found to be a horrendous, gigantic dump....
In Phnom Penh it is nice to enjoy a post prandial walk along the river front, watching the people. No one bothers you there. Phnom Penh has plenty of cheap guest houses, near the lake, but ghost preferred to stay in the centre near the river, paying $5 a night for a perfectly clean, adequate room. |

Sihanoukeville is the next big thing. I saw several schools there including a Build Bright Univeristy and some smaller ones. Tourism is booming there and the demand for English speaking staff and the desire for those jobs is creating a market for teachers. |
