I seriously doubt there are any "big 4". I would certainly hope not. If there were just look for the McDonald's. |

Know of any teaching opportunities there, or is merely tourism? |

Sorry Sho. I have made it that far out there, and it is way out there. I believe they opened an air-strip there but I know it's 36 hours from Tokyo. I have been to most the islands in the Izu chain, though.
I imagine your best bet would be the public and or private schools they may have there. Contact them directly or find out who is brokering them.
Good luck to you. |

Believe it or not, Interac had a 2-year contract for 2 ALT positions on Ogasawara. If memory serves, that 2-year stint will end in March 2005. Whether the contract is renewed or the current teachers stay, of course, is anyone's guess. The only way to get there is by ship. You can check out the local govt. site: http://www.vill.ogasawara.tokyo.jp/ |

thanks for the info. I know that it's way out there, but I have reason to believe that Haha Jima is where my family is originally from, and I guess you could say I'm searching for my roots, or at least half of my roots.
This site looks like it has a whole lot of information, unfortunately, I cannot yet read the Japanese characters, so it's pointless. Thanks though. |
