Do any of you get those job recruitments in your email? Here's one I received recently:

A secondary school in Downtown Beijing

New Zealand

TEFL/TESOL certificate (preferably)
3. Teaching requirements:

A yearly travel allowance
5. Required Application Materials:
Application form (Upon request)
Resume
Copy of the degree(s)
Copy of the photo page of the valid passport
Copy of teaching certificates/credentials
Two letters of reference
6. Contact Information:
Ms. Leslie Dong
Program Manager
Tel/Fax: (0086-10)67617562
Sorry, that was so long. Anyway, I won't be leaving my current school as I'm planning on going home next summer. However, I DID respond to Ms. Dong with a few questions. Why don't they put these things in the solicitations? (by the way, she has yet to re-contact me)
What floor will I be teaching?
What floor is my apartment located?
Is there major shopping and/or nightlife nearby?
What exactly does the "well-furnished" mean? Can you give me more details?
Is there a curfew or do I get to come and go as I please?
What about the students? What is there level of English?
Are they seperated into classes based on their English abilities? (in other words, beginning students, intermediate, and advanced)
There were more, but I can't seem to remember them right now. I know that Epoch is just a recruitment office and not the actual school contacting me. But, let's say I might take this job. I would definitely want to visit the school first, and have a look around. Maybe observe a few classes. Check out my accomodations. Ask questions and get EVERYTHING in writing first. Does this sound reasonable or foolish to you? What other questions would YOU be asking? |

My god, you asked a recruiter questions? That's not playing the game. No wonder there's been no response.
But seriously, I somehow got on Dong's list, too. I keep getting solicitations for openings in Suzhou (perhaps not so bad) and in Inner Mongolia (do I seem like I just fell off the turnip truck?). |

| Laodeng, I must have been on that turnip truck with you as I get the same offers. Not sure what I did to deserve these offers either. |
