Just wondering if anyone teaching in Japan even cares that the biggest event in the world is happening right now?
Also, what are the Japanese people on the street saying?
I know that people in China are rooting for Kerry. How about in Japan? |

To add, for the record, the title of the thread was a poor attempt to be funny, and failed. |

I don't see it as a big event at all. It's like a sporting event that isn't televised, I'll wait to read about it in the paper. Only with the election I can say that there will not be an outcome for some time, like last time. Let's just hope that they don't vote in a spoiled, rich, cocaine cowboy, boozer. Regardless of the outcome, the US is going to get what it deserves--everybody does.
Let us Americans wake up to the European Dream!

For the past few weeks all of my students have asked about the "erection" (although most of them shyed away from that word and went for "choosing a new Prime Minister....") and who I voted for, what I thought, etc. All of them seemed to be rooting for Kerry. I have taught many a lesson on the US political process lately. Sort of sad that it's over because there goes a really good topic....
For the record, I thought the thread topic was hilarious!!!! |

haha. The biggest event in the world????
Its a non-event in my book and I imagine almost all Europeans.
Of course its pretty important to Americans , but why should any other ordinary people give a toss?
Do Americans care about the elections in the Phillipines or Belgium? |

I have to say I was very impressed with my students. The 10 and 11 year olds were talking about the election and how the want to see Kerry win. They said Bush does to much fighting. I was pretty darn impressed. Seems like they care more about whats happening in the rest of the world then some other people who should care.
I think so many other people other then Amercians do care about the election because the States has so much control with the rest of the world. Not something I'm happy about but we're each entiltled to our own opinion.
Also today I was at a Japanese teachers house along with about 35 other people . Pretty much all the adults wanted to see Kerry winning.
I can say many people in Canada would like to see Kerry win as well. |

put me down as a "don't care" either. How many 'non-Americans' (ie the majority of the world's population) think this is
Quote: |
the biggest event in the world |
................?
Me, I am more concerned with what to buy people for Christmas or where kakipi are 'on special' this week (got a 6-pack for 148 Yen two weeks ago......TSUGOI YASUI ........) |

I think everybody should care. This election turn out will ultimately affect people living in other countries (Americans or Non). For us Americans abroad, it is how others will view us and treat us(which at the present state is not so good). As for the countries in itself, like Japan, they will be affected by having the current US government seeking to dominate every single weakling out there (ex. Blair and Koizumi). I know that some of you don't care but having a leader in this world, as well as the two leaders mentioned, allowing an illegal invasion into a country that posed no threat and letting thousands of people die over it, I think I'd be a little worried. |

I think anyone out there who says that the election is unimportant is kidding themselves. You may not care, but it is important. The US President wields a lot of power, whether we like it or not. Somehow, American policy affects most of the countries in which we live. |

An illegal invasion! ???? Tell that to Kuwait. haha. War is war, mate, not something you go to court about. Somethings need to be done in order to protect yourself.
You are probably kind of person that would complain that Blair/Bush/etc should have done more after Washington/NY/London/Paris/etc disappears one morning in a mushroom cloud. Because it's only a matter of time unless individuals with enough foresight stop it happening.
Learn from history or say bye bye to the future.
You should thank your lucky stars that there are people out there saving your a-r-s-e and getting killed for it and getting blamed on your ungrateful behalf. |

I do! In the Phillipines at least. (In Belgium I've no real interest, though I try to follow things in France as much as I can.) They're a crazy (I do mean this is in a good way) country, right down to their elections. |
