Just returned to the states last week. If your looking for a cheap, clean, safe, one night stay... try the Fortuna Hostel < near the Taipower building (Taipower mrt stop). $12.00 a night or book both beds as I did...$24.-
Cant beat it, if your on a budget.
Sorry I didnt save the link... but just go to Taipei or taiwan hotels...its listed. Good luck. |

I think you need to be a little more specific with what you want.
You need to choose a price range and an area then it'll be easier to offer suggestions. |

Yes. I do apologize.
My partner asked me if I wanted to stay in a guesthouse or a hotel, only.
I just thought I would throw that out there and see what came up!
Thanks for your time and if you come to Tokyo give a shout or Santa Barbara, for that matter.
Enjoy yourselves,

Thanks mate, I'll pass it on to my partner.
Btw, do you like teaching in Taiwan?
Are students motivated?
Are people accepting of foreigners or are they like here and always snorting their derision about trivial matters, cats passing through their yard, parking your car momentarily on the street, etc.
Thanks for taking your time and let me know if I can do anything for you!
Enjoy yourselves,

Hi again,
Our travel agent said we could stay for free at a transit hotel!
Anyone know what that might be like?
Enjoy yourselves,

I love it. I have taken a pay cut of $500 AU a month to teach here, and I still love it.

All of mine are. Certainly they're a lot more motivated than the average Australian kid. And a lot more respectful.

I've had no such experiences with locals, although I've seen a lot of this kind of stuff aimed at locals from foreigners.
Mind you, I stay around my mates a lot (Taiwanese), and I'm in Taipei, so I'm unlikely to see a lot of this kind of behaviour aimed at foreigners. There seems to be a very different kind of experience outside Taipei - I went to Taoyuan for an evening once, and I've never been so stared at in my life. Not that it mattered to me. |

Hi Fortigun,
Can I ask you a couple more questions? If so, could you tell me:
First, other countries you have taught in?
How long teaching in Taiwan?
What type of teaching are you doing?
And finally, what it is you love aboput teaching there?
Thanks mate,

Australia, my home country.

Four and a half months.

Buxiban (Kojen), kiddies (around 12-13 years old), and junior/senior high and adults.

- The kids respect authority and respect their teachers (relative to Australia)
- Teaching hours are readily available and nowhere near demanding unless you want them to be (I am at a zero stress level for the first time in my working life)
- I love helping people learn another language
- The cultural exchange aspect as I learn from my students
- I get to meet a lot of highly intelligent and interesting adults
- So many of the young kiddies here are utterly adorable

I earn $500 AU less a month here than I did in Australia. But I only work 18 hours a week instead of 40.
When I add to that the lower cost of living, I am absolutely laughing. I can't think of a reason to return. |

| back in the day i was required to transit through CKS (taiwan's INT"L airport) for one day. they took my passport and sequestered us at the airport hotel. not much is near the airport. quite far from taipei proper. a real waste of time. |

Hi Fortigun,
So, what you are saying is you are living well and working less?
That's cool!
We want to live better or I should say in a more stimulating environment; culturually, communitivly and mentally. Hmmmmm?
Anyway, we will be transiting through their on our way to holiday in Vietnam at the end of the month.
Enjoy yourselves,
