I'm not ashamed to be Australian - the wrongs of the government and the racism and nationalism of the extreme right are not my fault. I did the best I could and voted against them!
Being Australian overseas affords me (at least at the moment) a way to avoid the huge hatred that Europe feels about Americans, and also gives me this interesting quirk that distinguishes me from the 'mundane' (not my words) British, who are everywhere here.
It's interesting to note that I never cared much about being Australian until I left Australia. I'm beginning to understand this hoohah about National Identity and how it interacts with personal identity only now I'm so far away... |

I'm ashamed to be an Aussie after reading half of the drivel in this thread. I voted for the other guy too. It's a democracy, deal with it.
Australia is one of the best places in the world to live.
Deezy tells it how it is.

I wouldn't be so sure on that one though. |

And here's me desperate to eventually live in Oz. I want to leave England for the same reasons....our government and country as a whole seems very backward at the moment and it's very hard to get anywhere. It's all about money and as a result no one has any!!! Or at least that's how it seems to me!
I think Australia has more going for it and I would be well happy to live there!
As for the American elections...what the????? |

Most of my Ozzie mates have been beer swilling womanizing nutters with Scottish surnames (I'm a Scot). Maybe it's a genetic thing. Or maybe I just attract those kind of people. None of the above come from Melbourne, is there a reason for that? I would like to know. |

Josh...I did say it was a 'girl thing'
CS: Mostly beer swilling womanizing Irish nutters in Melbourne!
My daughter has just today been told she has her residency - after 4 years of waiting for approval. Cause for celebration? She thinks so! And her half Jamaican son is now going to be an Aussie and he's over the moon. He's got the longest fastest legs I've ever seen so maybe he'll run for Australia one day, wouldn't that be ace! |
