I'm moving to Cuenca, Ecuador. I need my wisdom teeth pulled. Anyone know how the oral surgery is, in Ecuador? Has anyone had it done there? Do they put you out? Give you laughing gas? I had some dental work done in Korea. It was ok, but the sanitation left something to be desired...as did the anaesthetizing(sp?). Also, how about pricing?

Don't do it. Ecuador has an appalling reputation for dentistry. If you want to have your wisdom teeth out go to Chile or Argentina where standards (of hygiene etc) and skill levels are as good as in 1st world countries. You have been warned.

As a general rule, the quality/safety is mediocre, if not truly bad (as noted above). But, that said, in most countries of the world there are GOOD, educated, trained people in this field -- though there numbers are small. You just need to find them. Try contacting your Embassy for a list of recommended people (not hard if you are from the U.S., U.K., Canada, Holland, etc.). There are decent dentists everywhere. Of course, the best dentists often routinely treat the richest people, so dont be too amazed if the best come with a price tag not all that different from so-called first-world countries!

Maybe a bit off topic, but I never got my wisdom teeth, weird, huh? Neither did my dad.
