Hello, I am a Canadian who is leaving for Cambodia in early August. I plan on travelling around for a month or so and then I will be taking the CELTA course in Hanoi, in September. I would like to return to Cambodia to teach English. How difficult is it to find work and what is the pay like? What is the best way to go about searching? I am 31 years old and have no teaching experience, but I do have wide - ranging life experience (I worked in everything from gold mines to managing a $200 Million CDN territory of financial planners to editing film for commercials). I have a 4 year honours degree in history with a minor in English, a college degree in financial planning, and various government certification in securities. I want to stay in South East Asia for the next 2-3 years.
Either way, I will be going there - but it would be nice to know what the odds of finding work are!
Any info would be great! |

Hey, there!
I've read all the stuff posted about the positives (nice one, khmerhit) and negatives in this forum. Basically, I'm hunting around for another job in SE Asia. Done the Indonesia thing already - and loved it - but would appreciate a heads-up regarding quality of life in general in Cambodia. + do's & don'ts, etc. What exactly does Cambodia have to offer that Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia don't?
All comments welcome!
Cheers.

I am finishing my contract up here in China come Jan...I have made the choice to go back to find a teaching job(s) in Canbodia. I am scared s@*tless, just of the unknown I guess. I mean going to country with everything, including whatever little money you have, without a job lined up is risky. (Umm.. and no plane ticket home..)
But Khmerhit kindof gave me a little push with all his...Cambodia is worth it... The fact is I was there this summer, loved it.. I have no idea about the wages or anything else but I am doing it and hoping for the best.
I think those of us who chose to go to Cambodia over an easier country like V, are quite brave.
Am I just psyching myself up..perhaps...but I hope to see you there "traveller". Where are you from in Canada? I am from Calgary Alberta.
NOTE: I am stunned sorry, I didn't even look at when the traveller first posted...sorry long day in small town china.... |
